  September Meeting
Attendees:Julie Black,Julie Bresson, Kristie Browning,Betty DeLapp, Daveita Gilbertson,DoriGreene, Shannon Leichliter, Linda Liquin, Sharon and Curtis Spivey, Bree Walker, and Gin Williams

We held our first meeting at our new location, the new HD dealership in Meridian.  It was great!

We spent the first 15 minutes celebrating a very special person's 50th birthday.   HD provided coffee, bottled water, and cookies.  There was cake and cupcakes, too.

After introductions we discussed the Anderson Ranch ride held on the 15th.  Not much turnout. Daveita encouraged everyone to notify her before the rides just to have a better idea of attendance.  Just a quick email response to the ride notice letting her know if you are planning to attend or not would be greatly appreciated.

The design for an Idaho Gems patch was discussed.  Daveita found a lady willing to make patches for a reasonable amount.  Daveita will take our feedback to her and come up with some samples.

Kristie donated three reams of paper to help with the cost of printing applications, flyers and notices.

Several people brought items to auction off.  The proceeds will help with printing and other costs.  Thanks to Betty, our fabulous auctioneer, everyone really got into the bidding.  I don't have the figure on what was raised.  But money was flying across the table when the auction was over.

Daveita gave us each a bandana she had custom designed with lots of bling.  (If you weren't there, you should have been.)

The mileage award (Gem) went to Daveita with 2300 miles since we met in August.  Way to go Daveita.  She sent the award home with me even though I only had 1760 miles. I guess she just had too many birthday presents to carry. So I got to take the Gem to my house and enjoy it in my kitchen window.  Don't forget to keep track of your miles from one meeting to the next.

The next meeting will be held October 15th at the new HD dealership in Meridian.  We are going to continue to raise funds for another month. So bring something to auction off or bring money to buy something someone else brings.

Safety tip: With the rain starting, be extra careful.  Check your tires. If they are worn, they'll be more slippery in the rain.  Avoid any painted lines.  They can be slippery when they are dry.  But they are guaranteed slippery when they are wet.  Avoid the center of the lane where most of the oil dripping from the cars tend to be.

This probably won't apply to most of your motorcycles, but it is true for your cars, also.  Don't use your cruise control on wet roads. Cruise control on slick roads can start spinning your tires at a very high rate trying to maintain speed when there is no traction.

Keep your chin up and your eyes on the horizon.

Respectfully submitted,
Shannon Leichliter
  August Meeting
Hello Idaho Gems

First let me say last night's meeting was really fun. If you weren’t there you missed a good time!

The most important Message I have for you, we will no longer meet at Idaho Pizza. Our meeting will be held at HD (High Desert), so bring a burger and come join in on the fun. Coffee and pastries will be provided. The times will stay the same; 6:15 if you are eating, with meeting to start promptly at 7 pm. The meeting will remain the 3rd Monday of each month.

Our Jackpot overnighter was so much fun. There were 6 of us. Nobody got rich, but Shannon learned to play poker!! Betty rode for the first time since May. We got there and back without a glitch!

Virginia will be doing some advertising to promote the Idaho Gems. I will inform you as to when and where, ASAP.

We are going to have an auction. Bring a white elephant; a craft item, something to auction, the money will go into a petty cash fund. This fund is to pay for supplies to run our club...paper, printer cartridge and etc..... Also this fund will help pay for women who would like to join but cannot afford the membership fees.

We have a 1000 carat Gem!!! The person who rides the most miles from meeting to meeting (honesty policy) will be awarded the Gem for the month. You must attend the meeting to be awarded the Gem. Gin Williams is our Gem holder of the month. Congratulations!!

Next months' ride is the 15th of Sept. We are going to Anderson Ranch; lunch is inevitable!!!
We will meet at HD at 9:00, leave at 9:30.

Soon there will be a BBQ at my house. Bring your grandchild, swimsuit, and your towel, for some fun in the pool! Details will come soon.

Is anyone going to Reno-Street Vibrations the 20th--23rd of Sept. There are still rooms available at the Best Western Airport Hotel. Phone # 1-775-348-6370.

Next month I'd like to see YOU!! yes, you.

I'd like to thank everyone who attended the meeting. It was very productive. But more so the laughter and fun of great friends!!

We will be celebrating birthdays at the meetings starting next month. So please send me your birth year & phone number.

P.S. Yep I  &^%$ the first e-mail; never said I could type or run a pc!

Always,
Daveita Gilbertson

  July Meeting

In attendance were Sherry Bernard, Kristi Browning, Daveita Gilbertson, Shannon Leichliter, Greg Leichliter, Sharon Spivey, and Virginia Williams

The first item on the agenda was to elect a new director for the chapter.  Barbara Hotel resigned on June 13, 2007.  Daveita Gilbertson was elected as the new director of our Idaho Gems chapter.  The second agenda item was to review the survey responses and brainstorm possible changes to increase participation in WOW events.  Lots of good ideas were brought up.  We discussed having a different member do a 10-15 minute presentation at each meeting.  Gin Williams will do the first presentation at August's meeting.  She will be giving us the condensed version of a presentation she attended at the WOW ride-in.

Other ideas discussed included doing a better job of including new people that are visiting at meetings.  The introductions could be more focused on the visitors.  It was mentioned that acknowledging each month's birthdays would be fun.  Perhaps a card or dessert at the meeting.  It was brought up that we should try to get together at rallies we attend.  Several of us find ourselves at the same rallies even though we may not ride there together.  We could plan to get together for lunch or something rather than just wave as we pass.

It was also brought up that we should do more impromptu rides.  If you are feeling like a ride, just send out an email and invite the rest of the group.  Even if just two people show up, it is still a fun time.

The third agenda item was the grand opening of the HD dealership in Meridian.  We had committed to have a booth this week-end even though it was originally scheduled to be an overnighter.  There was little response for the overnighter, so it was cancelled.  We will be supporting the grand opening by providing an Idaho Gems booth. If you can help with the table, please let us know.  Right now there are only three people participating starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning and going all day Saturday.

We will be taking a break from the booth on Friday, July20th,  to have a very special event.  Several of us have been missing our favorite ride coordinator, Betty DeLapp.  She has graciously agreed to spend some time with us Friday afternoon even though she is still adjusting to the chemo treatments and all the wonderful side effects.  If you can make it, we'd love to have as many WOW members as possible show up at Daveita's home on Friday, July 20th, between 4 and 5 p.m.  We will be having an early dinner.  Bring your favorite dish or just come to visit.  Daveita's address: 4066 W. Thorn Creek Ct Meridian, ID. It is between Ten Mile Rd. and Black Cat Rd. just off W. Cherry ln.  You would turn South off W. Cherry Ln. onto W. Park Creek Dr.  W. Thorn Creek Ct. is the second street to the right off W. Park Creek Dr.

Since the July overnighter was cancelled, we want to be sure everyone attends the August 18th overnighter in Jackpot.  It should be a great time.  Please let Daveita know if you can attend.  She is coordinating the rooms

July 20th - 4-6pm - potluck dinner at Daveita - 371-8408
July 20-21st - HD booth - Meridian - for a schedule contact Daveita - 371-8408
