January Meeting Meeting
called to order at 7:03 pm by Trina Michaelis/Cindy Stephens
Co-Directors. Idaho Patriot
Thunder June 3. 2011 - October 25th Meeting Meeting called to order at 7 pm at JB Restaurant by Assistant CD, Barbara Attendees: Barbara, Cindy S, Trina, Nila, Jules, Gin, Val, Trish, Elizabeth No guests this month. Business: Kudos to Jules & Jon for a great October ride and hosting the BBQ. Those on the ride were Jules, Jon, Gin, Barbara, Val, Greg (Val guest), Trina, Darla (guest). After a full meal, we were given a tour of the farm and car collection. Back to the food bin for pumpkin cake and ice cream. Garage Party & Swap Meet Report. Sparse attendance at the garage party this month. Interest in WOW, but no sign-ups. Chapter Director/Co-Direction Voting. Nominations made by Gin and seconded by Val that we accept Trina as Chapter Director and Cindy S as Co-Director. Congratulations to Trina and Cindy S. Barbara will have an Advisory position. All-Member Mileage Contest ends 10/31/11. Val distributed the end mileage forms with member’s information. All we have to do is enter our “end” mileage, make a copy and mail to the WOW Office. Impromptu fair-weather rides for Nov/Dec/Jan? Yes, all were in agreement. Suggestions were to include non-riding events. Set date/location for After-Holiday Party. Gin will contact HDHD regarding using their upstairs conference room. She sent out an e-mail with either 1/14 or 1/21 date preference. Group Riding Etiquette. Trina handed out Group Riding Etiquette books to everyone at the meeting. The return to staggered formation will be index and middle finger, not index and pinkie as shown in the booklet. Nila asked about staging procedure which is not listed in the booklet? Booklet will be updated to include staging for rides by Trina/Cindy S. Tech Seminar for 2012. Val will contact Deserai (Carl’s Cycle) regarding another seminar, possibly in March? WCG 2012. Dates are 6/8-6/10. Gin mentioned the West Coast Gathering (WCG) will again invite WOW members . The location TBD…suggestions are always welcome. Distance determines for WA/OR/ID members. Daylight Savings Time ends 11/6! Set your clocks “back” one hour. No comments required. Update: Seems Idaho has fallen off the radar for receiving the Sept/Oct issue of the WOW magazine! I sent out an e-mail asking for list of members that DID NOT receive their issue. The response was: Cindy F, Cindy S, Barbara, Trish, DeDe, Julie T, Jenn and Jill. An e-mail with follow-up phone call made to Beth at the WOW Office confirming. A WOW Yahoo entry by Lois Wyatt (BOT) was made w/instructions for those not receiving their issue. Since I have not heard from anyone in the past week, I will consider this case closed. Let’s hope the snafu has been corrected for the soon-to-be-mailed Nov/Dec issue!!! Events (FYI): 10/29 – Cycle Addiction Bash (WOW table?). (Update: We decided the weather looked promising for a ride to Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park w/brown bag lunch instead.) 11/5 – Veterans Parade, Boise 11/6 – Annual Turkey Run @ Cycle Addiction. $10 or frozen turkey. Benefits Idaho Food Bank and Idaho State Veterans Home. 11/12 – Toys 4 Tots $20 + new toy…last year there was just a toy donation…this year $20 additional donation. (Update: Rite Aid across from Quinn’s on Vista will participate with buy one, get one free toy 11/10 thru 11/12 only.) 11/19 – Turkey Run @ Birds of Prey Motorsports (Caldwell) $10 or frozen turkey. Benefits the Idaho Food Bank. 12/14 – Idaho Veterans Cemetery “Wreaths Across America” (Correction: Date is 12/10 ,Saturday) *There are no meetings in November and December. Enjoy the holiday season! This is the last meeting for 2011 and my last “official” duty as your Assistant Chapter Director. I want to thank everyone for their support and will continue in an “advisory only” capacity in 2012. The next meeting will be January 24, 2012, JB’s Restaurant, 7 pm. Respectfully submitted, Barbara Hotel #15566, Assistant Chapter Director Meeting called to order at 7:07 pm, JB’s Restaurant, Meridian, ID Sign-In Sheet/No guests were present. Members attending were: Barbara, Sox, Jules, Nila, Trish, Val, Trina, Elizabeth and Gin. Old/New Business: 1) Gin reported a successful and fun weekend ride to Lakeview. Nine of our ladies met 17 Gold Country Riders. 2) We reminded everyone of the 9/28 HDHD Garage Party at 6-9 pm. Trina & Cindy S were going to man an Idaho Gems table. 3) Gin announced the cancellation of the previously planned 10/8 3-Island State Park ride and BBQ due to lack of group consideration by the group lady at the park and the newly announced conflict with HDHD. a. Gin noted the 10/8 HDHD Swap Meet and Biketoberfest had taken precedence for the weekend and that two tables would be set up: one for WOW and one for the swap meet. Trina & Cindy S are going to man the WOW table; Barbara will man the swap meet table—Gin and Val will help man either. It is expected that the tables will be set up approx 9:30 am and extended to 3:30 pm. Gin is bringing her card table and chair. 4) Replacement ride for the BBQ has been scheduled for 10/15 @ Jules/Jon's house. We will stage at the Caldwell Flying J at 10:45 am; clutches out at 11 am. We’ll do a short (approx 90 mile) loop around Vale through Apply Valley Road out of Nyssa back to Jules house. It is expected that the BBQ will start approx. 1 pm. Because we are not doing a potluck, Jules will determine the approx. cost per those attending and ask for reimbursement. For those not attending the ride, please contact Jules at 989-8539 (cell phone/text) for address and directions. Since this will be an open event, please RSVP and email to Jules @ jcturner60@aol.com with the number of persons attending. 5) Discussion opened regarding the position of a Volunteer to provide “topical” information and report at each meeting on items of safety, ride rules, new m/c related items. Val agreed to this responsibility with the proviso that she be permitted to occasionally ask for someone else to step in. In this vein, Elizabeth brought both an Idaho STAR Motorcycle Safety Newsletter provided through the Idaho STAR Program (info@idahostar.org) regarding Group Riding as well as a DVD on Pro-Riding. It was agreed that as comprehensive as the video is, the information will be shared over a couple pre-planned meetings along with attendant riding exercises. 6) Gin noted that Jules was interested in being unofficial chapter photographer and would be responsible for submitting pictures to website for updates. Trina agreed to provide back-up on those occasions when Jules would be unable to participate. 7) Nominations for 2012 Chapter Director was opened and noted that Trina and Sox had suggested they’d like to co-direct. This nomination was seconded by Jules and agreed by everyone in attendance. 8) Barbara noted it was time for renewal of the Chapter Charter fee—due first of year. Cindy S agreed to again ask Canyon Honda to continue to provide that accommodation, while Nila noted she also had a dealer she might ask for concessions. 9) Gin opened discussion on the need for changing to a host-side server—and would need a back-up volunteer. Gin agreed to submit the 2012 expected domain and website expenses to Dave at HDHD with expectations that the domain would be switched to a new host after the first of the year. Cindy S agreed to help provide back-up and would receive the password, along with Jules for pictures, to provide updates to the website. Meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm. Following close of the old and new business issues, discussion was opened regarding the ride issue raised upon our return from Lakeview wherein it was expected that everyone would disperse their separate ways home from Vale. Discussion in Vale, however, assumed Trina would continue to lead through “20/26 to the freeway”. At the intersection of Hwy 201, Trina followed the “freeway” direction sign, whereas 4 of the ladies turned right toward Nyssa and thence to 20/26 and the freeway. It was felt by one of the members (not in attendance) that directions were insufficient resulting in a division of riders necessitating a correction. Basically, consensus felt it had not been a grievous issue—safety of the members being paramount. It was suggested that at the return point, it might be better to assume each rider responsible for returning home at their personal discretion. Members present agreed they preferred the group stay together assuming all riding the same general direction with good communication and consideration toward the ride coordinator; riders should align properly for drop off at their respective exit. Interest confirmed following the ride leader through to appropriate drop off points. Meeting called to order at 7:10 pm
in the Conference Room of High Desert Harley-Davidson, Meridian,
ID. Idaho Gems Chapter Meeting came to order on January 25th, 7:02 pm. It was noted that we had in attendance two new members; Jules and Judy, and two guests; Peggy and Margie. In addition to the Assistant Chapter Director, Barbara, were: Julie B, Laura, Val, Nila, Cindy S, Trina, Carla, and myself. Introductions were made around the table. Old Business: 1) Val reported coordinating with the service advisor at Carl’s for a tech shop session which would include T-CLOCK info as well as other hints/items to pre-check a ride. Assuming agreement, this would occur at Val’s house in Meridian on Saturday, the 19th of March at 4 pm. Bring your own bike, weather permitting. New Business: 1) Gin announced Barbara’s letter of resignation as Board of Trustee elect. Present body voted to retain her in an Assistant Director position and will coordinate closely with Val (newly elected Chapter Director) on matters of protocol and chapter direction. 2) Barbara noted request from Hayden WOW member DeDe for a roommate position for her room reserved in San Jose for the ride-in in July. Julie B indicated interest and Barbara said she would put Julie in touch with DeDe. 3) Gin discussed the 2011 ride-in mascot, Josey C Lion, coming in February to be shown and photographed in the state of Idaho. Photo op suggestions included the state capital, the blue turf of Boise State, the depot, the WOW radio station, and Frosty Buns and Chilly Chaps rides. Trina noted as alumni, she might have an in to the blue turf, as did Val, who has 2 children attending the university. Group photo ops will be notified. 4) Some discussion ensued regarding the ride-in and the Dolce Mansion—rooms are quickly being reserved (866 981-3300—mention WOW2011 for discount). While some time still exists for ride-in registration, hotel reservations must be made individually by those who will attend. 5) Laura announced her coordination of International Female Ride Day, Friday, May 6th, with the LOH and Todd and Saundra of High Desert who will promote the event this year. Gin will participate in lists of organizations contacted last year in hope of garnering larger numbers of women this year. Restaurant, ride route, and kick-off/group photo will be located and forthcoming in updates. 6) Barbara posted currently scheduled February rides as Chilly Chaps (HDHD 10 am) on the 20th and Frosty Buns (Cycle Addiction 10 am) on the 27th. 7) Discussion regarding membership renewal reminders—it was felt a volunteer coordinator was unnecessary as long as National sent renewal forms. Reminder also of the annual mileage contest beginning forms, which occurs April 1st. Individuals are responsible for reporting their rides starting odometer reading. Forms found on the national website as well as the magazine. 8) Barbara reminded the body that the February meeting will not be held on the regularly scheduled Tuesday night, but at High Desert H-D on Saturday, Feb 26, in the conference room upstairs for the annual viewing of the group riding video. Meeting starts at 2 – 4 pm. 9) Gin requested consensus regarding overnighters in addition to San Jose and noted Lewiston/Clarkston in Juone and possible link-up with Gold Country Riders in Lakeview, OR in Sept. While there was interest in the June ride to Lewiston, it was felt Sept was difficult for ladies with children at home and asked instead for an August date. Gin will follow-up. 10) Round of applause for Val and Jeff’s After Holiday (potluck) Party held at their home……super food, gracious hosts. Thank you!! Meeting adjourned at 8:16 pm Respectfully submitted, Gin Williams, SA |
