Meeting
The Idaho Gems Chapter of Women on Wheels was called to order approx. 7:05 pm. The sign-up sheet was passed around and we proceeded to introductions. Attendees included Barbara Hotel, Gin Williams, Cindy S, Cindy P, Anne D, Saundra, Val Block, and guest, Candy Byrne. 1. Barbara ran through the upcoming May rides and events, IG related and not related that includes the Awareness Ride on May 1st, the International Female Ride Day on May 7th at 5:30 pm at HDHD, Wink-n-Twink open house on May 8th, the HDHD annual swap meet on May 15th, MDA ride at HDHD 11 am, and the Gems ride on the 22nd to Edge Performance in Ontario for their anniversary celebration. Saundra announced further details for the female ride day. Barbara noted we would have a table at the swap meet and asked for volunteers to cover the table which will dispense IG information along with items for sale by members. Barbara and Cindy S will be in attendance to set up in the morning (9:30 - 1:30). Gin and Val (to be confirmed) will man the table in the afternoon (1:30 - 4:30 pm). If you have an item(s) for sale, please expect to bring and monitor; take home if it does not sell. Gin confirmed the ride to Edge Performance, hopefully to meet up with ladies in Oregon who wish to continue to end destination at Bully Creek. Edge Performance will provide lunch. Ladies who ride to Bully Creek with us will be returned to Edge Performance prior to our returning to the Treasure Valley. Wear your helmet and meet at 10:30 at the Garrity and Franklin Chevron station across from Wally World and Idaho Center. 2. Discussion ensued regarding dinner rides. Consensus of interest in dinner rides changed to one ride per month designated as 2nd Thursday. The first dinner ride of the season was, therefore, scheduled for June 10th. Meet at the Garrity Chevron at 6:30--clutches out at 6:45. We still need a ride coordinator and destination. 3. It was announced that Barbara was submitted for nomination for the Board of Trustees. Voting will take place via written ballot which will come out in the WOW July/August magazine. It is requested that all our members support Barbara with their vote and get their ballots mailed prior to the deadline, which is August 31, 2010, and received no later than September 10, 2010 to be counted. 4. Gin relayed information regarding a possible cruise to Alaska to take place in 2012 open to WOW members and coordinated by the current SA of Montana, Janice Allestad. 5. It was announced that a current events page was added to the index of our website. This page will show the next upcoming event in which the Idaho Gems will participate. 6. Discussion regarding our After-Christmas Party in January @ Val Block's house. Val volunteered to host again and also collect $1/per meeting from each attendee (to pay for main course).7. Ongoing Items: June 4, 5, and 6 - overnighter to John Day, OR, to meet with the ladies from the WCG (West Coast Gathering). Remember to get your reservations at Dreamer’s Lodge at (541) 575-0526 or 1-800-654-2849. Rooms are double occupancy, support members permitted on this trip. Tell them you are with the “WCG”. Val, Laura, Nila, Carla, Anne, Gin, Barbara. Guest
Saundra Noble.
1) A big thank you
to Val & Jeff Block for hosting our after-holiday party
on 1/16/10. She's suggesting a summer get-together (we
noticed the pool out back). The "white elephant gift
exchange was a riot...couple gifts changed hands more
than once.
2) Introduction of
Idaho State Ambassador, Gin Williams.
3) Barbara purchased
a WOW/Idaho Gems Chapter antenna flag from the WOW web
site and displayed for all to see. If you want one for
your motorcycle, check the WOW merchandise section on
the internet....if you don't have an antenna, maybe make
one as a mini-flag pole (not duct-tapped to bike
though).
4) WOW membership
form has been revised. You can find it on
www.womenonwheels.org
5) Salmon, Idaho
Ride,

signed up from Idaho Gems. We will meet MT chapters for
dinner
Saturday night...wear your Idaho Gems tee-shirt
and bandana (each person selected a color, no
duplicates).
6) Idaho Gems
tee-shirt - there seems to be a quality control
issue..maybe. Barbara washed her tee-shirt in the
machine and iron-on transfer has a crackle-look to it.
Suggested hand wash, do not put in the dryer!
7) WOW Ride-In,
Stratton, Vermont,
7/6-7/8-10.
8) Group Riding &
Safety - Thanks to Anne for her thorough explanation of
group riding (from the MSF information sheet) and hand
signals. A lengthy discussion followed.
Suggested everyone view the MSF Group Riding
video on YouTube. Reminder: Have your Emergency
Information somewhere taped to the inside of
saddlebag lid, windshield bag, so in case of an
emergency the group will be able to notify family
members. Do not put your list in purse or wallet.
Although Idaho is a non-helmet wearing state, we
strongly advise everyone to wear one for safety
purposes. Nila suggested emergency triangles for
emergency stops we may make on side of road. Barbara has
a small portable air compressor and first-aid kit.
9) WOW Service
Directory - If you wish to have your name and pertinent
information in the directory (currently only four WOW
members listed for Idaho), please contact Sue Frish, WOW
Membership Coordinator (email listed on back page of the
magazine) by 1/31/10 (cutoff date for 2010 Directory).
Or, let me know by Saturday the 30th if you want your
name in the directory or not.....we currently have 19
WOW members in Idaho. Some of you may only want a phone
number...no worries, your name/address/phone number is
confidential information both from National WOW and
Idaho Gems Chapter.
10) Laura gave us a
couple web sites to check out (womenridersnow.com
and
garage-girls.com).
11) Our guest
tonight, Saundra decided to jump in with both feet...we
welcome her to our family of women riders! Stop by High
Desert HD and introduce yourself. Saundra suggested the
'mentor program' thru HDHD and will have more
information at our February meeting.
February meeting is

Calendar for 2010 will be the topic of this meeting. Do
we want a Dinner Ride twice a month? Ice Cream Social (y'mm)?

August Meeting Minutes-8/25/2009 The Idaho Gems Chapter of Women on Wheels was called to order at approximately 7:00 p.m. The sign- up sheet was passed around. Attendees included Nila young, Cindy Pangburn, and Shannon Leichliter. Everyone was reminded that the August 27th dinner ride has been cancelled. There was a discussion about the September 10th dinner ride to Delsa’s Ice Cream, 7923 Ustick Rd, Boise. Everyone is to find their own way there and plan to meet at 6:45 p.m. at Delsa’s Ice Cream. Having a WOW chat forum was discussed. We weren’t sure of the value. So the discussion was tabled until more people with a better understanding of the value could provide input. Nila and Cindy said the Aug. 3rd Potluck was great. It was nice to meet some BOT members. We discussed the Aug. 13th dinner ride. Nila felt she was too inexperienced to lead a ride. But she did great. The ride was fantastic and the park was shady and very enjoyable. Reminded everyone the WOW Ride-in – Stratton VT, July 6-8th, 2010 The August 29th Day Ride was discussed. It was decided that we would support the Veteran’s ride. August 29th we will meet at the Veteran’s hospital west parking lot at 10:30 a.m. The address is 500 W Fort Street. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Nampa&1s=ID&2c=Boise&2s=ID&2a=500+W+Fort+St. The ride starts at 11:00 a.m. We will parade around the Veteran’s hospital grounds and have hot dogs with the veterans. We should be done by 1:00 p.m. BOT 2010 Election ballots were handed out and should be sent in by August 31st . The HD Swap Meet on September 9th was discussed. It seemed odd that it would be on a Wednesday. So Shannon called HD and they said there wasn’t one on the 9th . We will have to follow-up once we have the correct date. $3.00 was collected for the end-of-season party. Safe Riding was discussed. It was recommended the everyone go to www.msf-usa.org and check out the four short videos: Welcome to riding, Basis Rider Course Highlights, Group Riding, and Common Road. Next Meeting – September 22nd The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. But we stayed and visited for another 20 minutes. Submitted by Shannon Leichliter The Idaho Gems Chapter of Women on Wheels was called to order approx 7:05 pm and the sign-up sheet passed around. Attendees included Barbara Hotel, Nila Young, Gin Williams, Laura Middleton, Cindy Pangburn, and Val Block. Old Business: We discussed the upcoming Saturday ride on August 1st and decided to leave 15 minutes earlier than posted on the web because of the heat. Valerie brought the prototype of the banner she is making for promo identity--one small item was noted and the banner approved. Val will be printing the banner on a permanent surface. New Business: Nila will coordinate the dinner ride scheduled for August 13th to Veterans Park--staging as usual at the Chevron at I84 and Garrity at 6:45 pm; clutches out at 7 pm. This will be our longest dinner ride of the season, winding up through the foothills behind Boise. The August 27th dinner ride was cancelled in view of the state fair opening and 2 co-directors being absent. Discussion followed regarding changing one dinner ride to an independent social destination wherein everyone will ride their own route to the destination and home. First social ride will be to Delsea Ice Cream in Boise in Sept--further details to follow. There was interest in an intra-state gathering next year, but later noted that our WOW members outside the Boise area had dropped to one--so subject was shelved until additional Idaho members have joined. The WOW Chat Forum was explained and address noted so that more of our members could be made aware of topical discussions pertinent to them. Next years WOW ride-in location to Stratton, VT, July 6, 7, and 8 was noted. General consensus was distance was prohibitive. A Board of Trustee member's pending visit was announced and interest in a welcome potluck solicited. It was decided to notify IG members not in attendance and a small reception will be planned at the home of Gin Williams on Monday, August 3rd, for Anne Solari and her friend Mary, who are coming to Idaho to tag Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The August day ride scheduled for August 29th will be deferred to Shannon and further information will follow. The BOT 2010 election ballot was discussed and members urged to return their ballot by 8/31. Announcements: It was announced that the August 25th meeting would be chaired by Shannon since 2 co-directors would be returning from the AMA Conference and not available. Barbara announced the swap meet scheduled at HD on 9/19 where we will have our promo table and beautiful banner by Val. Val reminded us of the $1 per meeting contribution for our end-of-season party. Meeting adjourned approx 8:15 pm. Submitted by Gin Williams A sparse group at the meeting tonight (Barbara, Nila, Laura and Trish).
Discussed having the
meetings the
last Tuesday of the month instead of the fourth. It
was decided to leave as is.
The 7/9 dinner ride will
be hosted by Barbara. The 7/23 dinner ride will be hosted by
Nila. The monthly ride will be held 8/1 to
Idaho City, meet at 9:30 am, clutches out at 9:45 am.
Next meeting will be
July 28th at JB's restaurant.
The Idaho Gems Chapter of Women on Wheels was called to order approx. 6.55 pm and the sign-up sheet passed around. Attendees included Barbara Hotel, Nila Young, Gin Williams, Shannon Leichliter, Laura Middleton, Julie Bresson, Val Block, Trish Houlne, and new visitor, Cindy Pangburn. Barbara announced several upcoming events including the 2nd annual Council Mountain Flag Day Run, High Desert M/C Rally in Ontario, and the Bikefest 2009 in Caldwell. Additionally, Laura gave us details on the Ride for Rescue Mission, Saturday, May 30th. Followed was an open discussion on instituting a point award system for attending meetings, rides, charity participation, ride coordination and sweep duties. Consensus was to keep a simple riding chapter and there was no interest in an award system. Val explained her problem with completing the banner (lack of logo), and we discussed the low profile our group had at the swap meet. It was unanimous that the chapter needed greater identity and Val would proceed with creating a solid banner for the next promotion that would include our chapter logo! Shannon again introduced her embroidered logo design and gathered garments to imprint. Sizes and costs were discussed as well as the possibility of embroidering your name in addition to the logo for an additional $5.00. Shannon reported on the upcoming ride route to Adrian for lunch at the Mirage. Staging will occur at the Chevron Station off Garrity and Franklin in Nampa at 1 pm, Sunday, May 31st. Clutches out at 1:15 pm. Barbara handed out and introduced an Emergency Information sheet that she requested each rider fill out and give to the Ride Coordinator prior to the Sunday ride to Adrian. Barbara also handed out and introduced a Release Form, which she also requested be filled out and submitted to the Ride Coordinator prior to Sunday's ride. Some discussion followed regarding filing the form each ride as opposed to once for the remaining of the year. Since the form stipulates that the execution and filing of the form with the chapter remains in effect for the balance of the year, it was agreed to keep forms on active file. As ride participants (includes full member, support member, or child member) ride for the first time with the Idaho Gems, a Release Form will be requested at that time. New release forms for all riding participants will be requested the beginning of the new year. Gin opened discussion on June dates and prospective ride activities. The regularly scheduled June weekend was found conflicted and decision made instead to institute Thursday Dinner rides, the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. First Thurs. Nite ride will begin June 11th and will be a brown bag ride of approx 30 miles. Ride coordinator will make the decision on route details, and park or restaurant destination. We will meet at the Chevron Station at 6:45 pm; clutches out by 7:00 pm sharp. Ride Coordinator duties will rotate though members. A person may elect to plot out the route, but parcel out a separate ride leader/sweeper. A second Thursday Nite Ride was scheduled for June 25th. Details TBD. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm. Submitted by Gin Williams The Idaho Gems Chapter of Women on Wheels was called to order approx. 7:12 pm. The sign-up sheet was passed around and we proceeded to introductions. Attendees included Barbara Hotel, Nila Young, Gin Williams, Kathy Smith, Shannon Leichliter, Laura Middleton, Julie Bresson, and Val Block. 1. Each lady introduced herself, what and how long she‘d been riding. 2. Gin followed up on both the all-member mileage contest and cumulative mileage programs. 3. Upcoming events included the Friday, May 1st Ladies ride-to-work day and Saturday, May 2nd Awareness Ride and CMA BBQ which will be held at the Municipal Park at 500 S Walnut in Boise following the run from Lucky Peak Dam. A bike blessing will be performed by CMA members at the Park.4. A hand-out was sent around the group that included the schedule for the 2009 3rd annual Bike Night held at Snake River Yamaha. Barbara also distributed “2009 Come Ride With Us!” maps. 5. Discussion proceeded with regard to setting a regular chapter ride date. It was proposed generally to hold the group ride on the last Saturday of the month. It was decided that the May ride would be held on Sunday, May 31st. Shannon volunteered to be ride coordinator and Barbara suggested a lunch ride to Adrian to the Mirage Café. Barbara later confirmed the restaurant is open on Sunday and has made tentative reservations. Adrian is approx. 1 hour from Nampa and members and support members are invited to attend the ride. It was agreed that staging will take place at the Chevron by the Idaho Center in Nampa on Garrity. We will meet at 1:00 pm; clutches out at 1:15 pm. Detailed information will be available by the May 26th meeting. 6. Shannon’s embroidery work was introduced along with a price schedule and the invitation to bring t-shirts, turtlenecks, vests, etc. for logo embroidery. Shannon will accept your garments next meeting, May 26th. Small logo (4”) is $5, middle-size logo (5“)-$7, and large logo (7”) is $10.00. Contact Shannon directly for questions at sleichliter@gmail.com. 7. Discussion proceeded regarding the promotion of the Idaho Gems Chapter of Women On Wheelsâ and the distribution by individual members to favorite bike shops of our flyers and brochures. These materials will be sent via email to each member along with these meeting notes. 8. Continued promotion discussion concerned the producing of a banner to be used for promotions that could be hung for eye-catching appeal in traffic situations. Val volunteered to see what she could do as she’s produced this kind of material before. 9. Brief discussion introduced regarding a charity event--pigtailed into a currently scheduled program. Proposed was the MDA fundraiser and our contribution to the poker runs. 10. Interest in an experienced rider course was polled to see whether we’d have a sufficient number of ladies that would participate in an Idaho Gems/ladies only experienced rider course. Experienced rider course is $40.00. To garner a date, we’d need commitment from 12 persons and location might depend on date selected. It appeared we might have interest from our group and it was suggested that to insure participation of 12, we’d contact LOH to check their level of interest. 11. Safety and group riding information was shared, including a hand-out produced by Max Van Orsdel of Sacramento. Max is an ex-CHP and has 40 years riding experience. Gin noted she has a group riding video and wondered about showing the video at a meeting. The video (later checked) is from the MSF website: http://www.msf-usa.org/index_new.cfm where a number of riding videos have been produced and are available for viewing on your own computer.Meeting adjourned approx 8:30 pm Gin Williams #9695 Our meeting was a good one! In attendance were Barbara, Shannon, Gin, Kristy, Nita, Morgan, Trish, Kathy, Laura, Julie, and Valerie. The Meet and Greet of the Idaho Gems Chapter of Women on Wheels was called to order approx. 7:08 pm. The sign-up sheet was passed around and we proceeded to introductions. Among the 11 attending, many were new to the Gems and were given membership sign-up sheets. 1. Barbara Hotel, Director, gave a short explanation of the creation of the Idaho Gems in 2006 and described the revival of the chapter this year. Barbara also announced that Dave Thomas of High Desert Harley-Davidson picked up not only sponsorship of the chapter for the year, but also paid for website and domain fees. 2. Gin Williams explained and discussed the all-member mileage contest and cumulative mileage programs. Mileage contest forms and cumulative mileage forms were handed out. 3. It was noted that the website currently contained a calendar of events made up as FYI of programs, dates, rides, and area events gleaned from other chapters/clubs and that we would add our own rides and meeting dates. April events were discussed as well as May 1st Ladies ride-to-work day and May 2nd Awareness Ride and CMA BBQ which will be held at the Municipal Park in Boise following the run from Lucky Peak Dam. A bike blessing will be performed by CMA members at the Park. 4. April HD events our chapter would support and participate within are the beginner ride (meet at 1 pm--clutches out 2 pm) April 5, the garage party on the 23rd, and the intermediate ride on the 26th. It was also noted that Snake River Yamaha would be reprising their Bike Nights once a month beginning April 25th. 5. Members agreed to support and use the Annual Kick-Start Party at HDHD in Meridian as our April chapter ride. We will meet at HDHD at 11.……..clutches out and destination to be determined. 6. Members present agreed to keep the 4th Tuesday of the month for the chapter meeting. Monthly rides could be incorporated into other chapter events/rides as agreed and impromptu weekday rides are still of interest. 7. Members present found the accommodations at JB’s Restaurant to be comfortable for member meetings and Barbara secured the manager‘s approval, although meeting location might be held elsewhere to include training videos/sessions and will be notified as such. 8. Shannon Leichliter has graciously accepted orders for the embroidery of chapter logos on your garments. Shannon has several sizes and prices available and she should be contacted directly for further information. 9. Kristy Dickerson agreed to speak to Dave Thomas or his events liaison regarding a charity event we could adopt/promote as a chapter. 10. Trish Houlne agreed to introduce group safety riding instructions at the April 28th meeting. Among other information, she will demonstrate hand signals. Meeting adjourned after 8:30 pm Respectfully submitted Gin Williams #9695 |
